WHAT IS AN X-RAY?

X-Ray, which is short for x-radiation, is a testing technology that passes through the patient. Once it has passed, it is gone – none stays in the body. X-ray imaging has been extensively used for decades to see bones, muscle and more without having to make an incision or involve an enclosed space for exams.

Generally performed on a closely defined part of the body like bone, teeth, the abdomen, chest, mouth, neck, skull, pelvis, hands, or joints, there are also full body X-rays. And while many people associate X-rays with broken or fractured bones, these images are also useful in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis, osteoporosis, infections, cancerous tumors, blocked blood vessels and many other conditions. Choose our medical imaging center for excellent X-ray services in Grapevine, Texas.

HOW DO I PREPARE?

If you are pregnant, or think you might be pregnant, call us prior to your appointment.

When you are scheduled for a more typical, standard X-ray(non-contrast radiograph), there is no special preparation. And you may eat and drink, as usual.

All X-Rays are walk in based ONLY.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

We recommend wearing comfortable, leisure clothing without metal snaps, zippers, hooks, or belt buckles that may affect the quality of the images.Alternatively, we can provide an exam gown during the study.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN X-RAY?

Depending on what area of the body needs to be studied, you may be asked to sit, lie down or stand in a few positions during the test as a large camera attached to a steel arm moves over your body to capture X-ray images. Each camera shot only takes a minute or two. Remaining still is important, so the best possible picture is obtained.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE X-RAY?

You will be free to resume normal activities, just as before the procedure. Images are sent directly to our radiology group and reports will be ready within 24 hours and faxed to your physician’s office.
