Whether you're looking for an easy trail designed for a quick afternoon walk or something a bit more adventurous for an all-day hike, there are plenty of scenic places to enjoy in the area. Read on to explore five of the best walking trails near Grapevine, Texas.

Lake Grapevine Horseshoe Trails

If you enjoy a challenge, lace up your hiking boots and head over to the Lake Grapevine Horseshoe Trails. For a longer adventure, set out on the main Lake Grapevine Horseshoe Trail which covers a 4.4-mile loop that typically takes hikers one hour and 36 minutes to complete. Open year-round, this is a beautiful area to explore with your dog, as long as you keep your furry friend on a leash. Enjoy the scenic lake view as you weave in and out of the forest. This trail is also a popular spot for mountain bikers.

If you don't have enough time to explore the full Lake Grapevine Horseshoe Trail, check out the Horseshoe Trail Short Loop instead. At just over two miles long, this loop only takes approximately 46 minutes to hike, making it a moderately challenging, but still kid-friendly trail if your children are a bit older. We suggest downloading a map before you visit to make sure you can easily navigate the area since the Short Loop intersects with the main Lake Grapevine Horseshoe Trail.

You can also visit Snakey Lane while you're in the area, which is another trail many hikers and runners enjoy because it runs along Grapevine Lake. Enjoy resting areas and water fountains along this area to stay hydrated and energized throughout your adventure.

Oak Grove Trail

For a more relaxed, kid-friendly walking experience, visit Oak Grove Trail just outside of Grapevine. This 1.33-mile route is fully paved, making it easy to travel. While the trail is open year-round for walking, biking, hiking, and trail running, it's rarely busy, which makes it the perfect destination to get out and explore nature while enjoying some peace and quiet.

Park at the intersection of the Oak Grove Loop and the Darren G. Medlin Trail to get started. You can even bring your dog along with you to adventure along the paved trail that winds along part of Grapevine Lake. If you have time for a longer hike, you can turn onto the Dove Loop Trail or the C. Shane Wilibanks Trail to extend your journey. When you're finished with your walk, stop by the workout station near the parking area to cool down and enjoy a refreshing drink from one of the water fountains.

Big Bear Creek Trail

Big Bear Creek Trail provides another easy walking area that's family and pet friendly. This trail extends for 3.41 miles, with approximately one mile featuring an eight-foot-wide paved concrete trail that's ideal for biking and running. You'll find two convenient parking areas just off of state highway 360, with bathrooms, water fountains, sitting areas, and other amenities nearby.

Take a moment to enjoy the beautiful creek side overlook and explore the interpretive signs that line Big Bear Creek Trail. Pack a picnic lunch and relax at one of the Bear Creek Pavilions after your walk or let your kids play at the Bear Creek Park to keep the fun going. There's even a basketball court, soccer field, baseball diamond, and football area for those who enjoy sports.

Meadowmere Park Shoreline Trail

For a full-day adventure, head over to the Meadowmere Park Shoreline Trail. While admission is $5 per car and $1 for pedestrians, you'll find there's plenty to do once you're inside. The paved trail runs for 1.9 miles along the Grapevine Lake shoreline and typically takes 34 minutes to complete, making it the perfect easy walking area for families and pets. While this trail isn't as clearly marked as some of the other ones we've mentioned in our lineup, you'll have fun creating your own route as you navigate the area.

Afterward, go for a swim in the 288 acres of sparkling water or soak up the sun on the sandy beaches of Meadowmere Park. You can even rent standup paddle boards and kayaks from DFW Surf to explore the area. If you have children, they'll have a blast at Texas' largest floating aqua park obstacle course. Spend the weekend by registering for a campsite along the lakeside, complete with a fire ring and picnic table.

Colleyville Nature Center Trails

These trails wrap around each of the ponds and run along Mill Creek. While you're visiting the Colleyville Nature Center, check out the amphitheater or enjoy lunch in the covered pavilion, which includes a grill, drinking fountains, and restrooms.
